SKAD 8: The Skill ‘G’ add-ons (SKAD) training program celebrated the successful conclusion of its 8th batch today. An initiative jointly spearheaded by TETFund and Skill ‘G’ Nigeria Limited, SKAD is designed to enhance the technical prowess of lecturers and technologists from tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
SKAD 8: Empowering Science Education and Training (SET)
SKAD 8 focused on equipping 32 lecturers and technologists from TETFund-sponsored universities across Nigeria with the skills necessary for the operation and maintenance of equipment provided to their institutions by TETFund. The primary emphasis was on Science Education and Training (SET).
A Memorable Closing Event
The closing event for SKAD 8 was expertly moderated by Skill ‘G’ Project Manager, Engr. Chijioke Sampson Okolie. It commenced with the rendition of the national anthem and the recitation of the national pledge, instilling a sense of patriotism. Subsequently, a comprehensive review of the 5-day training program ensued.
Engr. Okolie took a moment to express gratitude to TETFund, particularly under the stewardship of its Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, for their pivotal role in establishing SKAD and advancing the proficiency levels of Nigerian academia. He encouraged the 32 participants to embrace a “train-the-trainer” approach to propagate the remarkable benefits of SKAD throughout their institutions.
SKAD 8: Voices from the Participants
SKAD 8 was composed of four distinct tracks: Autotronics, Mechatronics, Electronics, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC). Each track had a representative who shared their SKAD experience.
Dr. Alfred Demenogu Tyav from Benue State University, Makurdi, represented Autotronics. He enthusiastically lauded SKAD, declaring that it had transformed him into a guru. Dr. Tyav highlighted how Skill ‘G’ exceeded expectations, providing valuable insights into Automotive Diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques, and hands-on testing experiences.
Representing the Mechatronics track, Engr. Dr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu, also from Benue State University, Makurdi, expressed her appreciation to TETFund and Skill ‘G’ for initiating and facilitating SKAD. She extended her gratitude to the Project Manager, his deputy, and the expert instructors. Her sentiment was clear: “All of us are already add-ons.”
Engr. David Akuwa from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, served as the spokesperson for Electronics. He couldn’t contain his enthusiasm, describing the SKAD initiative as “so wonderful.” He emphasized how the acquired expertise allowed their institutions to fully utilize the equipment at their disposal, all thanks to SKAD 8. He also commended the instructors for their exceptional theoretical and practical guidance.
Dr. Effiong Ibanga, representing the RAC track from the National Open University of Nigeria, shared how SKAD had gone beyond their expectations. The program not only covered the physical components but also delved into software aspects and program development. Dr. Ibanga expressed his gratitude to TETFund, SKAD instructors, and the dedicated Skill ‘G’ staff.
SKAD 8: Paving the Way Forward
The collaboration between TETFund and Skill ‘G’ Group through the SKAD initiative holds immense potential to revolutionize science and technology education in Nigeria. This transformative impact will be most significant if the knowledge and skills acquired by lecturers trickle down to their students.
Through SKAD, we are nurturing a generation of educators and technologists who will shape the nation’s scientific landscape for years to come.

The TETFund Skill ‘G’ Add-Ons (SKAD) capacity-building training began its 10th cohort on 16th October, 2023.
This edition features the training of 32 lecturers and technologists from various universities across South-Eastern Nigeria in the area of Science Education Technology (SET) with respect to fields of Autotronics, Mechatronics, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning (RAC), and Electronics.
The TETFund Skill ‘G’ Add-Ons (SKAD) capacity-building initiative began its 9th edition on 10th October 2023.
SKAD 9 has a primary objective of imparting essential skills to 32 lecturers and technologists hailing from universities sponsored by TETFund throughout Nigeria.

In this 7th edition, SKAD has expanded its reach to a hybrid of universities and polytechnics, signaling a shift from previous editions, which exclusively catered to lecturers and technologists in polytechnics; and ushering in a new wave of batches, specifically catering to members of Academia from Universities.
